**First Time At Auction**
Pre-Columbian, Western Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fascinating mace head, skillfully hand-carved from red stone displaying a hue of reddish brown with grey and cream inclusions. Boasting a silky-smooth surface, the wonderful weapon presents a cylindrical body with a circular rim of its socketing shaft and a flared head. A series of 6 petite nobs resembling maskettes are equidistantly spaced along the same horizontal axis on the exterior, while the rim of the head is adorned with a band of incised X motifs. The looseness of the socketing shaft suggests that this example was used in ceremonies rather than on the battlefield. Size: 1.75" in diameter x 2.25" H (4.4 cm x 5.7 cm)
