East Asia, Japan, ca. early 20th century CE. A vibrant blue-on-white transfer printed porcelain jardiniere with a finely painted jungle motif across its exterior. The center of the painting features a tiger in mid-air, perhaps pouncing on unsuspecting prey below within the bushes. Bamboo trees line the backdrop, and this motif is repeated twice over the vessel's exterior surfaces. The lip is lined with a thick geometric floral border that is paralleled to a linear pattern across its base. Size: 7.15" W x 7.25" H (18.2 cm x 18.4 cm)
