Native American, Fort Mojave/Mohave Indian Reservation, Mojave/Mohave people, ca. early 20th century CE. A handsome male doll, hand-modeled from unfired clay and dressed in a loin cloth made from beige fabric tied to his waist with a scarlet embroidery thread and a necklace consisting of 10 strands of cobalt glass beads. Falling from broad, square shoulder, his arms lay parallel to his flat body, which stands upon a pair of long, slender legs and petite feet. His body is adorned with large blocks of light orange and russet-hued pigments, while his face is embellished with horizontal stripes of the same colors. Capped by a coiffure of black embroidery threads held in place with a strip of red fabric, his fascinating visage exhibits bulging, ovoid eyes beneath an arched brow, a curved nose, a straight mouth held slightly open, and a jutting, pointed chin. Note the natural mica deposits that dot the clay adding a lustrous sparkle to the surface of this charming figure! Size: 3.5" W x 10.25" H (8.9 cm x 26 cm); 10.625" H (27 cm) on included custom stand.
