Ancient Egypt, late Third Intermediate Period to Late Dynastic Period, 25th to 30th Dynasty, ca. 744 to 343 BCE. An interesting cast-copper pendant depicting an ibis striding atop an integral plinth. The upright avian presents with a plump body atop delineated legs, an integral suspension loop atop the back, and a slender head with a lengthy beak. In front of the animal rises a feather of Maat (or feather of truth). The entire composition is covered in thick layers of mottled green and russet patina. Size: 1.02" L x 0.88" W (2.6 cm x 2.2 cm)
Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896
