A fine wheel-thrown pottery kantharos (wine cup) with distinctive high handles. The body has gradually expanding walls, a thin rim surrounding a shallow basin, and a wide foot atop a squat stem. A flanged border between the body and foot displays dozens of incised grooves, and the entire vessel is covered in a lustrous, jet-black finish. Bucchero is a specifically Etruscan technique for firing pottery which results in a smooth, shiny black finish. This type of cup may have been made specifically to be buried with offerings, as was often the case for such fine Etruscan pottery. Size: 7.2" W x 4.875" H (18.3 cm x 12.4 cm).
