Classical World, Italy, Etruria, Etruscan culture, ca. 768 to 264 BCE. A beautiful scarab-form pendant carved from carnelian exhibiting opaque copper-red colors and cream-hued inclusions. The topside of the ovoid insect has incised features including a folded wing carapace, a smooth shoulder, and a narrow head with a frilled clypeus. Illustrated on the underside are a pair of mirrored horses with bowed heads and knobby limbs extending from a mutual body. Drilled lengthwise through the body for suspension, this is a fantastic example of ancient Etruscan artistry! Custom putty impression included. Size: 0.6" L x 0.4" W (1.5 cm x 1 cm)
