- Lot Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Moche, ca. 100 BCE to 300 CE. An ensemble of four copper lime spoons, used to snort lime powder in order to enhance hallucinogenic properties of other drugs like coca. All present with interesting finials. Two depict seabirds eating fish; one presents a parrot; finally, the fourth represents a different bird, perhaps a swallow. All have developed a gorgeous blue-green patina over the ages. Size of largest: 3.3" H (8.4 cm); 4.125" H (10.5 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950 to 1960s
