Greece, Athens, Proto-Attic Period, ca. 7th century BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery patera dish with a wide circular form, a shallow basin, and a pair of undulating handles, all covered in a cream-hued slip. Applied black pigment illustrates groups of frets along the rim, thick swaths of pigment within the basin, stripes on the handles, the underside with additional frets and a radiating ring of petals, and finally an encircled, seven-petaled flower adorning the base. Size: 9.25" W x 1.8" H (23.5 cm x 4.6 cm).

Repaired from multiple large pieces with small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Chips to rim, handles, and body, with fading to original pigmentation. Light earthen deposits throughout.
