Roman Empire, probably Rome, ca. 1st century BCE - 1st century CE. Wonderful bronze candelabrum - oil lamp or candle stand - sitting on three curved legs each ending in the paws of a feline. Three large leaves open at junction of shaft and legs. Slender shaft in the form of a foliate stalk, small leaves emerging from the shaft up toward a flat plate to accommodate a oil lamp or wax candle. Close to the top of the shaft sits a winged Eros perched among the leaves. He rests his head in his hands, his elbow on his left knee, legs extended outward and wings to each side of the stalk. Size: 21.125" H (53.7 cm)
