**First Time At Auction**
North America, Native American, Southwestern US, Arizona, Melda Nampeyo (Hopi, b. 1959-present), Fawn Navasie (Hopi, b. 1959-present), ca. early 21st century CE. A wonderful pair of wheel-thrown polychrome pottery vessels from the Hopi Indians. One vessel has a flat base, an apple-shaped body, rounded shoulders, and a small mouth. It displays a decorative program of black and orange details on the cream-slip surface in geometric, linear, and feather-shaped motifs; the bottom displays the maker's signature, "Melda Nampeyo." The second vessel has a small flat base, a saucer-shaped body, rolled shoulders, and a slightly flared rim. Four distinct areas of abstract red-and-black details grace the cream-slip surface, and some undecorated areas display warm orange patches resulting from varying temperatures during the firing process; the signature "Fawn Navasie" is also on the base of this vessel. A lovely duo! Size of largest: 4.125" H (10.5 cm).
