- Lot Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 700 CE; Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE; Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE; Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A fine gathering of five textile fragments comprised of tightly-woven cotton or camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in a plethora of hues. One Nazca panel boasts a trio of beige-and-brown felines next to an S-motif border, and the second Nazca panel displays a trio of abstract octopi above a register of cresting waves. A Chancay panel depicts several repeating brown-and-cream birds. The Chimu panel shows cresting waves and abstract zoomorphic creatures in crimson, wheat, and cream hues. The Inca panel illustrates a register of left-facing parrots in hues of marigold, burgundy, bronze, and espresso. Size of largest (Nazca felines): 5.5" W x 9.25" H (14 cm x 23.5 cm); size (Riker box): 16.1" W x 12.125" H (40.9 cm x 30.8 cm).
