- Lot Description
Classical World, Northern Italy, Etruscan culture, ca. 600 BCE. A lovely terracotta votive profile head of a woman, the visible half of her face framed by a short, wavy coiffure and topped the soft flowing hood of a himation. Though mold made, the artisan went to great lengths to capture the details of this visage - her generously lidded, almond-shaped eyes, pointed nose, full lips, gentle chin, and lengthy neck - and conjure a sense of idealized beauty as well as humanity. A gorgeous example! Size: 2.5" L x 1.75" W x 4.75" H (6.4 cm x 4.4 cm x 12.1 cm); 5.5" H (14 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private Santa Clara collection, California, USA, before 2010
