North America, California, ca. 1950s CE. "Let's go surfing now. Everybody's learning how. Come on and safari with me!" Forgive me, but this vintage surfboard brings Beach Boys' tunes to my mind! How about you? A gorgeous vintage surfboard made of a beautifully finished hardwood - the vision and creation of an immensely talented craftsman, as very few woodworkers today have the skills required to create a classic wooden surfboard like this one. Note its incredible length - designed to ride the waves off of Malibu or Waikiki - and stunning honey and walnut stained finish, the darker stain bordering the board and providing a stylish contrasting decorative motif to each face. Size: 113" L x 21.75" W (287 cm x 55.2 cm)
Wooden surfboards were originally made from very heavy hardwoods such as Wili Wili, Cedar, or Redwood. Craftsmen were passionate about finding the ideal design to create a better board - making changes to the size, weight, shape, the materials, the fins, etcetera in order to ride the perfect wave! This surfboard is a very early example, definitely made from a weighty hardwood, presenting a sleek design and an attractive finish. Perfect for any collector who is fascinated by the history of sports!

Expected surface wear commensurate with age and weathering, with some stable fissures and abraded areas as shown, but in overall very good shape and the stained decoration is well preserved. Comes with a fabric case, albeit with a musty odor. It may be possible for the case to be cleaned and treated.
