Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, early Moche, Period I, ca. 100 BCE to 300 CE. A captivating Moche redware stirrup vessel depicting a compelling scene: two figures engaged in what appears to be a medical or ceremonial procedure, set upon a rectangular base. One figure reclines nude, save for a helmet, with an arm resting over his head and a bag positioned on his shoulder. Above him kneels another figure, distinguished by an elaborate tunic and cape, his hands purposefully placed upon the reclining figure's chest.
