Native American, Southeast or Midwest, Missouri, Saint Francis County, Mississippian, ca. 900 to 1543 CE. A wonderful pottery jar presenting a globular body with a brief neck and a slightly flared rim above a deep basin, all sitting upon a round yet stable base. Enveloped in mottled hues of tan and gray, the delightful vessel displays a petite pair of vertical handles that flanks its wide mouth, connecting rim to shoulder. Expected surface wear with some light abrasions, as shown. Areas of fire-darkening. Otherwise, intact and excellent with nice mineral deposits. Collection label on exterior, reading "ST. FRANCIS / CO. MO."
