Native American, Southwest United States, Navajo, ca. 20th century CE. A dazzling high quality silver concha belt and bracelet. First, the stunning belt boasts a pattern of rectangular chain links skillfully hammered with a stylized six-winged insect alternating with cloud-like ovoid chain links displaying an almond shape with petite eagles at each point. One large ovoid link serves as the centerpiece and is carefully adorned with a symmetric abstract design of almond and diamond shapes, along with decorative striations. Alternatively, the bracelet consists of an open band that tapers at each end with a gorgeous rectangular pendant of turquoise at its center. Each side of the bangle is symmetrically embellished with an intricate design, featuring (from end to pendant) a cactus and a moon separated by a curved striation with one jagged side, a pair of vertical zigzag arrows pointing towards the pendant, an applied bird between two phytomorphic vertical lines, and an embossed circle flanked by two inward points. Size (belt): 33.75" L (85.7 cm); (largest panel): 2.1" L x 1.4" W (5.3 cm x 3.6 cm); quality of silver: 94%; total weight: 80 grams. Size (bracelet): 2.375" W x 1.375" H (6 cm x 3.5 cm); (wrist opening): 0.9" W (2.3 cm); (turquoise): 0.6" L x 0.4" W (1.5 cm x 1 cm); quality of silver: 93.6%; total weight: 17.5 grams.
