West Africa, Nigeria, Nupe culture, ca. mid-20th century CE. A striking wooden stool characterized by a round, flat seat supported by eight tapered legs. The surface of the seat is etched with geometric motifs and adorned in colorful pigments. Each leg is similarly painted, with three featuring whimsical rooster-themed stickers or decoupage cutouts, adding a playful, personalized touch. Traditionally, stools of this type were gifted by a husband to his wife as a gesture of respect and appreciation, reflecting the stool's important role in domestic and symbolic life. The stool is crafted from a notably dense and heavy hardwood - likely teak - enhancing its durability. Size: 16" L x 14.5" W x 13" H (40.6 cm x 36.8 cm x 33 cm)
