• Lot Description
  East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. 19th to 20th century CE. A wonderful pair of hetian jade, or nephrite, anthropomorphic figures shown kneeling with hands on their laps, their bodies and limbs painstakingly incised with a symmetrical patterns of scroll motifs. Crowned by a pair of top buns and a flat cap, both display forward-facing visages with large, round eye, extended brows, broad, ridged noses, and petite lips enveloped by naso-labial folds. Each is vertically drilled with a suspension hole. These figures were likely inspired by the kneeling jade figures of the Shang Dynasty found in the tomb of Fu Hao, dated to 1200 BCE. Size (both the same): 1.5" L x 1.4" W x 2.4" H (3.8 cm x 3.6 cm x 6.1 cm)
