Native American, Mexico, Baja California, ca. 100 BCE to 100 CE. A hand-built pottery figure of an abstract and intriguing form with slender, delineated legs, a narrow waist, and an overhanging abdomen. The upper body boasts perky arm nodules beneath broad, wing-like shoulders, and several pairs of incised striations form a concentric 'V' pattern on the chest. The narrow neck line suggests the miniscule size of the original head, and the pointed shoulders perhaps indicate an effigy of a deity or spiritual entity. An incredibly rare example of figurative artistry from ancient Mexico! Size: 4.25" W x 8.2" H (10.8 cm x 20.8 cm); 10" H (25.4 cm) on included custom stand.
