Central Asia, Tibet, ca. 19th century CE. A cast brass statue of the goddess Tara, likely in the form of Sitatara - the White Tara- who embodies wisdom and wish-fulfillment. Her right hand is extended in a mudra gesture while her left hand holds the stem of a blooming lotus. At some point, a silk tassel with an infinity knot was tied to her hand, and the remains of a wax export seal are still attached to the cord. The figure is cast in two separate pieces, joined at the waist. The underside of the hollow pedestal is sealed with a copper plate stamped with a four-headed dorje symbol. Size: 7" W x 17.5" H (17.8 cm x 44.4 cm)
