Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Middle Cauca region, Quimbaya/Middle Cauca, ca. 300 to 1500 CE. A hand built terracotta abstract anthropomorphic figure with negative resist decoration and a highly stylized form comprised of a wide, trapezoidal head and a large, square torso standing upon tubular legs with flat soles and arms in low relief with hands over his abdominal region. He is a male with a petite penis delineated between his legs - and his facial features are classically Quimbaya including coffee bean shaped eyes, a slit mouth, and a pronounced nose pierced for the addition of ornaments. In addition, there are perforations through the ears and shoulders for further ornamentation and a perforated belly button as well as black striations across his visage and neckline, perhaps indicating tattoos. A wonderful example from this ancient Colombian culture. Size: 7.125" H (18.1 cm); 8.5" H (21.6 cm) on included custom stand.
