A lovely silver penny from the rule of King Cnut (Canute) the Great of Denmark, England, and Norway, named the North Sea Empire. A highly popular king who wielded great influence in the Catholic Church due to his possession of Denmark and among the Norse-Gaels due to his control over the maritime zone between Great Britain and Ireland, Cnut is perhaps best known for the legend of King Canute and the Tide in which he asks the incoming tide of the sea to halt at his feet and when it does not, he exclaims on the uselessness of secular power in comparison to the supreme power of God. A gorgeous artifact from a past empire. 90.68% silver, 6% copper, 1% lead. 1 gram.
