Oil on canvas. Jo Hay is the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod's inaugural Artist of the Year (2022).
In The Grande Dame, Anne Packard, Hay captured the unmistakable presence of one of today’s most iconic Cape Cod artists - Anne Packard. The portrait is extraordinary not only for its beauty, but for its rarity: today, at age 92, Anne has yet to sit for another artist—let alone welcome one into her Provincetown home.
In that singular moment back in 2009, Hay created an intimate study of artist and place, painting Anne as she sat in her living room with Cape Cod Bay stretching out before her.
Hay is a contemporary British American portrait painter celebrated for her skill and visionary talent that includes recognition and honors from the New York Academy of Art and the National Gallery of London. She has earned an MFA from The New York Academy.
Hay's work is known for vibrant brushstrokes and arresting portraits that breathe new life into traditional portraiture. What truly sets Hay apart is her brilliant use of color - it's both exacting and free-flowing that resonates in a powerful and stirring way. Dimensions: 66"x48". Website: www.johayartist.com. Social: johayartist. Valued at: $50,000.00.
