Hand-knotted wool on cotton rug of Persian village weave. The madder-red field is centered by an ivory stepped medallion enclosing a polychrome floral rosette, with matching ivory corner spandrels, the ground densely filled with floral sprays, boteh and serrated leaf motifs in indigo, ivory, gold and green. Indigo main border of scrolling floral vine between narrow rose-brown guard stripes with rosette meanders. Ivory fringe at both ends. Persian, ca. 1920's
Condition
Even, moderate pile with light reduction in the ivory spandrels; colors strong with natural abrash in the red field. Selvage overcast worn and frayed along both long edges, with loose fibers and foundation exposed in places. Cotton end webbing intact, fringe full at both ends with light fraying. Back even; no holes, patches or reweaving observed. Good.
