• Lot Description
  A finely carved hardwood figure of Hotei (Budai), the Laughing Buddha, shown seated in a joyous pose with raised hand and expressive smile. His voluminous robe cascades in flowing folds, and the rich reddish-brown wood is smoothly polished to a warm luster. The carving captures a sense of buoyant vitality associated with Hotei, a symbol of contentment, abundance, and good fortune. The underside shows old wear and tool marks consistent with age; the figure is carved from a single section of dense hardwood.

  Condition

  Stable age cracks throughout; minor wear and scuffing. No visible repairs.
