Carved jade recumbent water buffalo, the head turned sharply to one side with incised eyes and muzzle and ribbed horns swept back along the neck, the legs folded beneath the body and the tail curled over the haunch, the reverse carved with the folded hooves in relief. Mottled pale celadon to greenish-grey stone with extensive russet veining, brown staining and areas of darker inclusion.
Condition
Good. Natural fissures with russet infiltration through the flank, the left haunch, and the folded legs on the underside; dark grey-black inclusions at the muzzle and hooves natural to the stone. Light surface abrasion and scattered fine scratches to high points, with minor rubbing along the horn ridges.
