Carved jade pendant of rounded form, worked in openwork and low relief on both faces with a recumbent horse, its head turned back, and a monkey clambering over its back among scrolling clouds, the composition forming the rebus mashang fenghou. Dark mottled green-black stone with russet and brown inclusions.
Condition
Good. Heavy brown iron staining and altered matte areas over much of the surface. Rubbing and smoothing to the raised details, notably the muzzle, ears and the monkey's limbs, with minor nicks along the lower rim. Pale residue in several of the recesses and openwork.
