• Lot Description
  Including: A well-preserved fossilized pinecone exhibiting the characteristic radiating arrangement of seed cavities revealed in cross-section. The interior displays an elegant pattern of elongated, teardrop-shaped chambers—each representing the former seed scale attachment point—now mineralized with chalcedony and iron-rich deposits. The exterior retains its natural, textured cone surface, showing the knobby, weathered pattern typical of conifer cones that have undergone long-term silicification, 2-1/2"H x 1-1/2"W x 1"D<br> A naturally preserved fossilized pinecone embedded within its original sedimentary matrix. The cone displays well-defined, spiraled seed scales arranged in tight, rose-like whorls at the center of the specimen. Surrounding the cone is weathered, textural matrix material showing stratified layering and mineralization consistent with long-term burial and lithification. The pinecone retains excellent three-dimensional form, with individual scales clearly articulated and exhibiting subtle mineral replacement, 1-3/8"H x 2-1/2"W.
