  Monkey Mother and Child. Oil on beveled board, signed lower right "G. Max." "Rosenheim" upper right corner. An emotive and tender depiction of a mother monkey embracing her child amidst blooming roses, rendered in Gabriel Max's signature academic realism. Known for blending anthropomorphic sensitivity with scientific observation, Max often portrayed animals with humanlike expressions and compassion, as seen in this intimate composition.
