• Lot Description
  A large decorative brass balance scale in the antique apothecary/banker's manner, the spiral-twist column rising from a stepped square plinth of black and gold veined marble (portoro type) and supporting a turned beam with baluster arms and disc terminals, centered by a pierced heart-form scrolled finial with plumb pointer. Two shallow circular brass pans suspended on decorative link chains. Knock-down construction; the central boss with an indistinct stamped mark. Provenance: lifetime private collection, Dr. Martin and Lisa Earle, Pittsburgh, PA.

  Condition

  Good overall. Brass with light tarnish and scattered fine surface scratches, most notably to the pans. Marble plinth with natural veining and inclusions, minor wear to edges and chips to corners.
