• Lot Description
  Four paintings on silk with brocade borders, depicting different kind of birds, perching on blossoming tree branches (one with pomegranates); inscribed in Japanese kanji with kana calligraphy with classical auspicious phrases and artist's name seals: "May good fortune and beauty of spirit extend your years / A poetic banquet verse gathering held in May, Following the harmonious flow of sake / Painted the divine pheasant by Meng Yu, painted on an autumn day of the Wuwu year (corresponding to 1978) / Cherry blossoms flourishing in an age of Great Peace, painted in early Spring of the Wuwu year." Double mated under non-glare museum glazing and framed in carved wood bamboo style frame, overall 17-1/8" x 15-1/4". Provenance: acquired at Kauffman's in 1981.

  Condition

  Very good overall, a few minor original pigment smudges, light wear to frames.
