A charming low-profile Rookwood Pottery inkwell, shape number 418C, decorated by artist Irene Bishop in 1903. The inkwell features a softly rounded, squat form glazed in warm amber and golden tones. The surface is delicately hand-painted with sprays of yellow daisy-like flowers and olive-green foliage, executed in Rookwood’s signature soft, painterly style. The floral decoration is beautifully integrated with the glaze, enhancing the naturalistic effect. The base bears the impressed Rookwood flame mark with Roman numeral "XIII" denoting the year 1903, shape number 418C, and the incised monogram of decorator Irene Bishop. An old paper label with handwritten inscription corroborates the attribution.
Condition
Fine overall craquelure to the glaze, consistent with age.
