• Lot Description
  Saint Anthony's Bread is a Catholic tradition and charity work dedicated to helping the poor. It honors St. Anthony of Padua and expresses thanks for answered prayers. The name comes from a 13th-century legend where a mother promised grain equal to her revived child's weight. Oil on canvas, name plate attached lower frame, no signature found. Old label Wunderly Bros. Fine Art Dealer's, Pittsburgh attached on the back; framed in Art Nouveau gilt relief frame, overall 32-1/2" x 27-1/2". Provenance: Gary Sheldon Grimes Estate private collection.

  Condition

  Good overall, two old patches on the back, some craquelure, frame with light wear and minor losses commensurate with age and use.
