A vibrant and intricately stitched American Victorian "crazy quilt," circa 1880s–1890s, composed of irregularly shaped fabric scraps including velvet, silk, brocade, and embroidered textiles, embellished with hand embroidery in a variety of decorative stitches and motifs. The quilt is framed with an ornate crocheted lace border. The reverse features a red and white striped silk fabric. Embroidered with Garfield, Mollie (US President James Garfield) initials and the dates 1879 and 1881 within the patchwork.
Condition
Some fading, minor wear, and splitting to delicate silks; overall very good antique condition consistent with age.
