Hand-knotted Turkoman prayer rug, the madder-red field divided into three vertical columns by narrow ivory-ground panels, each column filled with rows of interlocking ivory, red and dark brown latch-hook "curled leaf" motifs, the lower end with a stepped prayer arch flanked by dark-ground elem panels of small repeating diamonds. Multiple narrow borders of serrated diamonds, reciprocal and zigzag motifs enclose the field. Low wool pile, with kilim bands and fringe at both ends.
Condition
Very Good. Pile full and even throughout, with strong, unfaded color and no holes, moth damage or repairs observed. Selvedges intact, with minor thinning and loose overcast at the lower corners. End finishes worn: the fringe is short and uneven with scattered loss, and the kilim bands are slightly reduced. Rug lies a little unevenly along one end. Light overall soiling; back clean and sound with no patches.
