Two rectangular jade plaques, each drilled at the top for suspension. The first of mottled celadon stone with brown and russet inclusions, carved on one face with a standing figure within a raised border and on the reverse with a recumbent beast above an inscribed cartouche, the upper edge carved with a chilong. The second carved on both faces in low relief with a phoenix amid dense scrolling clouds, the pale stone with russet staining.
Condition
Very Good. Both plaques intact, with no cracks or repairs observed and the suspension holes sound. Minor nibbling and small chips to the edges and corners, and light surface scratching; dirt in the carved recesses. The cloudy grey, brown and purplish areas of the figural plaque and the russet staining of the phoenix plaque are natural to the stones. Not professionally tested.
