- Lot Description
Framed oil on canvas painting laid on board, Der Findling (The Foundling), after Ferdinand Malitsch (Austrian, 1820-1900), apparently unsigned, frame with plaque inscribed "The Rendezvous/ Carl Hubner," sight: approx 28.5"h, 35.25"w, overall: approx 36.25"h, 43"w, 21lbs
Condition
05.12.25: In my opinion regarding LOT 4197: I note that the painting is intact and remains securely encased within framing, the canvas having been stabilized by being laid on board as described, close visual examination reveals some small spots of paint loss with slightly visible canvas along the top edge, the upper right corner with a small seam, UV light examination reveals scattered inpainting, most being small spots, and a professional restoration at the site of seam with inpainting near the central plane of the top edge, UV light also reveals a thick layer of varnish, I observe a small blemish at the cheek of the leftmost figure holding a baby, the frame remains structurally sturdy with tonal variations of the gilt finish, including mellowing, rubs, and minor surface wear such as small chips commensurate with use/ display, as well as some typical stable splits, the title placard remaining secure to frame with rubs to the gilt finish of the metal
