- Lot Description
Continental Baroque inlaid and parcel-ebonized rosewood table casket, 18th/ 19th c., topmost compartment with a sliding panel cover, the body framed by spiral twist columns, engraved metal plaques depicting Perseus and Andromeda and the chariot of Poseidon, a concealed drawer at the right side panel, approx 17"h, 19.5"w, 17"d, 25lbs
Condition
CR 8.20.25-In my opinion regarding LOT 3024: This casket does not retain a key, but is unlocked and all components are accessible, the casket is structurally sound, with some typical splits and separation, most being small and minor (see images), one bottom corner of the casket with a minor glue reinforcement at trim, the metal plaque with a small area of lifting along the separation seam that currently remains stable, the right side panel with some minor filled reinforcement of central separation, hardstone mounts remain secure, including one with a minute hairline, the lid opens smoothly and the hinges remain tight, the interior with wear to paper-lined interior commensurate with age and use, retaining a pin at the right side edge to release concealed drawer, I observe some typical minor chips and small scattered losses to inlay (see images), this surface wear is also commensurate with age and use and is overall minor
