- Lot Description
Italian Renaissance Revival carved display bookcase, late 19th c., having angular molded cornice, over carved frieze with scrolling foliates and central grotesque mask, dual glazed doors and sides enclosing fixed-height shelving, framed by pierced figural corner posts and fruit-bearing vegetal motifs in high relief, above paneled fall-front storage compartment with winged mythical beasts and central urn, rising on stepped feet, approx 91.25"h, 81"w, 28.5"d

03.13.26- In my opinion regarding LOT: 3183- the case is heavily carved with substantial relief decoration including fruiting pendants, demi figures, and relief carved scenes, it is impressive in size and detail, the case is in stable and sturdy condition, wood surfaces exhibit tonal variation, scattered surface wear, and small typical wood losses/chips to carvings and pendants, particularly noted to protruding carved elements and along the upper trim, glass panes appear intact and likely later replacements, I observe a few small restorations, one to left corner of fall lower fall front door, and scattered minor touchups throughout, the interior shelves display wear and would benefit from a careful cleaning and waxing, the shelving system appears later altered with shelves resting on corner support blocks that appear securely attached with screws, the upper shelf appears fixed while the lower two shelves are removable, as the support blocks are simply screwed into the back panels an additional shelf could likely be installed if desired, however I am not a wood worker, the shelves have curved and decoratively molded front edges, there is typical scattered light evidence of minor old woodworm, all mentioned are commensurate with the age, origin and use of the cabinet
