- Lot Description
Monumental architectural stained and leaded glass church window, 19th c., with central painted panel depicting the seated Moses, after the sculpture by Michelangelo (Italian, 1475-1564) in the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome, in geometric colored glass surround, housed in a riveted iron frame, intact and secure with typical minor hairline fractures, approx 101"h, 50"w
Condition
07.29.25: As described the window is intact and secure with some scattered minor hairline fractures, which are typical and commensurate with age and use, the glass being overall well-preserved in my opinion, with a few panes of replaced glass, seemingly concentrated at the blue colored glass panes surrounding figure (visible by their matte appearance, original glass in this region has etched scrollwork, see images), this region also having some professional restoration to reinforce the leading around a few panes (see images), panes with reinforcements and hairlines appear to remain securely encased throughout, painted elements remain legible, a few of the upper registers of glass panes slightly caving inwards but currently remain fully secure and stable, the iron framing with patination/ oxidation, remaining structurally secure throughout, the glass would benefit from a very gentle cleaning to resolve lingering grime/ dust build-up
