- Lot Description
Large French Louis XV style bronze fourteen-light billiards chandelier, 19th c., having sloping frame with draped floral swags and foliate motifs, issuing ten arms, each terminating on floriform glass shade, frame enclosing four additional lights fitted with faux candlesticks, in need of wiring, approx 42"h, 53"w, 25"d
Condition
08.13.25: In my opinion, As described the fixture is in need of wiring, I observe typical light tonal variations of the bronze associated with patination, sparse spotting, and some light mellowing of the gilding, I observe several restorations including welded or soldered reinforcements (see images), one secured to frame with secondary wiring (see images), repairs are largely only visible from an aerial view of the interior, glass shades fit comfortably around each socket, two shades with chipped loss of a petal (see images), one with a couple minor glue restorations at the lower edge, others are free from observed hairlines/ fractures or loss, I observe some chipped loss of the interior faux candlesticks, which is also only visible from an aerial perspective, the frosted glass bottom of the frame is also free from visible chipping or hairlines, and would benefit from a gentle cleaning to resolve dirt and grime build-up commensurate with age and use
