- Lot Description
Louis XVI period marble-top commode, late 18th c., three drawers, framed by corner posts with inlaid fluting, on tapering square-section legs, drawers in later canvas lining, some small veneer losses, approx 34.75"h, 46.25"w, 23"d
Condition
7.29.28: In my opinion, the structure is stable and stands sturdy, the marble top is intact with some typical small chips and roughness along the edges and corners, there are a few fissures professionally stabilized with fill and small areas of roughness on right side marble top, the case is overall intact exhibiting some scattered small wood/veneer losses, rubs, tonal variation, nicks and very slight evidence of old woodworm, the right side case has an interesting old wood patched repair, front legs show minor wood wear/loss at back, drawers slide well, they retain a worn adhesive liner, that would benefit from being replaced, it has a slight musty odor, all mentioned commensurate with the age, origin and use of the commode
