Antique Rockford pocket watch – 17-jewel movement – 14K gold-filled case – fine damaskeening – early American railroad-grade timepiece.
For sale is a beautifully preserved Rockford Watch Co. pocket watch, featuring a high-grade 17-jewel movement and an elegant 14K gold-filled case. Produced by one of America’s most respected 19th-century watchmakers, this timepiece showcases the mechanical excellence and ornate design for which Rockford became renowned.
The white enamel dial is detailed with black Arabic numerals, red 5-minute markers, blued-steel spade hands, and a sub-seconds dial at 6 o’clock. The dial is exceptionally clean with minimal age-related wear, maintaining superb legibility and classic aesthetic appeal.
Inside, the movement is marked “Rockford Watch Co.” and numbered 627540, corresponding to an approximate manufacture date of 1890–1895. The 17-jewel mechanism displays fine damaskeening patterns, gilt-filled script engraving, and beautifully blued screws. It was built to Rockford’s exacting standards for accuracy and durability, likely intended as a railroad-grade movement for precision timekeeping.
The watch is housed in a 14K gold-filled case, bearing serial number 6918051, with elegant engraving and a bright, warm tone. The covers open smoothly, and the overall case condition is excellent with only light surface wear. The piece winds and sets properly, though running accuracy has not been tested and it is offered as-is.
Rockford 17-jewel gold-filled pocket watches are prized by collectors for their intricate craftsmanship and historical significance. Comparable models in similar condition typically sell between $450–$750, depending on cosmetic and functional state.
Given its high-grade 17-jewel movement, exceptional finish, and clean presentation, this piece is valued around $625.
Offered for sale as-is, this is a fine example of Rockford’s precision engineering and American horological artistry, perfect for collectors and enthusiasts of quality vintage timepieces.
