Incredibly rare -- possibly unique -- circa 1920s printer proofs for what is presumed to be a serving tray or advertising sign for Garrett & Co.'s Virginia Dare wine. Both are about 16" square. Registration marks (crosses) inside the gold border of the pieces measure 14-1/2" across. The Virginia Dare tin trays are about 12" in diameter. Assuming that the red banded border is designed to appear along the inside, raised edge, it's likely this was intended to be the proof for a tray, not an advertising sign. One has a horizontal crease across the top border. Some foxing and toning on sides. Both lithos are vibrant. Back of one piece has a pencil inscription: "OK, Garrett & Co., Except improve mouth of girl." Note: Obviously the proofs are backwards images.
