Large hand-carved green serpentine sculpture of a muskox by Kananginak Pootoogook (1935-2010) of Cape Dorset (Kinngait), Nunavut. The form emphasizes sweeping, incised fur striations and a compact stance on four block feet, with a high polish that brings out the dark green stone. The underside bears an incised signature, and the original Igloo tag. The front foot is broken as pictured, otherwise the sculpture is in good condition. | Please see photos for additional details.ABOUT THE ARTIST: Kananginak Pootoogook (1935 - 2010) was a leading Inuit artist from Cape Dorset, known for his finely detailed prints, drawings, and carvings depicting Arctic wildlife and Inuit Life.
