Carved stone sculpture by Plains Cree artist, Stewart Steinhauer, depicting a bear interlocked with a human figure. The rounded, biomorphic volumes and open-form negative space creates a continuous spiral around the central voids. The stone shows variegated green, tan, and ochre tones with a satin polish. The underside is marked ‘Stewart S.’ The sculpture is in good condition. | Please see photos for additional details.ABOUT THE ARTIST: Stewart Steinhauer (born 1953) is a Cree sculptor from the Saddle Lake Cree Nation in Alberta, known for his large-scale granite carvings that explore themes of land, spirituality, and Indigenous identity. Local pickup is available by appointment at our Ferndale, Michigan facility. Pickup or shipping must be scheduled within 15 business days of the invoice date to avoid storage fees.
