2012 hand-carved serpentine sculpture, ‘Bird Spirit’ by Inuit artist Toonoo Sharky (Cape Dorset, Nunavut). The piece is carved from mottled green serpentine stone with incised detailing to the wings, feet and features inlaid eyes that provide contrast to the stone. The form depicts a stylized bird with outstretched wings and a face at the front, top and back of the head. The underside is inscribed with the artist’s signature and date, along with the Igloo Tag label. The sculpture is in good condition. | Please see photos for additional details. | ABOUT THE ARTIST: Toonoo Sharky, born in 1970 in Cape Dorset (Kinngait), Nunavut, is a highly regarded Inuit sculptor from a family of well-known artists. He started carving as a child, learning from his grandfather and uncle, and became a full-time artist in his teens. Local pickup is available by appointment at our Ferndale, Michigan facility. Pickup or shipping must be scheduled within 15 business days of the invoice date to avoid storage fees.
