A rare combination of everything goes with this card. First, the postcard features the famous Big Shanty capture spot in Kennesaw, Georgia of the legendary The Engine General. It is addressed to Miss Berta Murray, born Roberta Murray (1888 - 1972) the daughter of Confederate surgeon Robert Rootes Murray (1836 - 1909) a prominent doctor of Powder Springs, Georgia. Berta was postmistress of Powder Springs 1915 - 1922.
Roberta Murray – (1888-1972) was a well-known and respected citizen who spent her life serving others. Roberta was the daughter of Dr. Robert Murray, one of the first doctors in town. Long before there was a public library in Powders Springs, Roberta invited young people into her own private library and encouraged them to borrow her books. She often bought shoes and clothes for children so that they could attend school. She is remembered as the town’s first historian.
On top of all this historical wonderment, the postcard has the somewhat rare Scott 357 left facing Franklin stamp in green with the horizontal US Postage overhead.
