The title is the artist's one of whose homes was in the tranquil Kennebunkport, Maine. Roger Deering (1904 - 80) was an American artist most noted for his outdoor and landscape scenes of New England. This one in particular brings a longing and nostalgic desire for a peaceful care-free summer in a special place.
According to his Ask Art biography, "R.L. Deering was one of America's foremost sea and landscape artists who captured the charm of New England's many moods. At the time of his death Deering was a resident of Ocean Ave. in Kennebunkport, Maine.
He attended the Portland Museum and School of Fine Arts, and also studied at the Anson Cross School of Painting in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, the Wayman Adams School in Elizabethtown, New York, the George Elmer Brown School in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and the Aldro Hibbard School in Rockport, Maine."
