This magnificent black and white photograph mid 20th century captures the fabled New York Central Hudson 4-6-4 passenger locomotive delivered to NYC between 1927 - 1938. This even number 5246 J-1 class would have been assigned to one of the company's subsidiaries, almost certainly Boston & Albany, and would have operated until 1957 at the latest, but more likely terminated several years earlier when the reprehensible Alfred Perlman ordered them all scrapped. This photograph was handled by Rail Photo Service, itself an interesting story in the annals of railroadiana. Its stamp appears on the back of the photograph. Photographic credit is given to H. W. Pontin (1893 - 1973) the founder of RPS. Frame included. Boston & Albany / New York Central 4-6-4 "Hudson" Locomotives in the USA
